Modernist Afterlives of Eighteenth-Century Thought

How did eighteenth-century debates about revolution, colonisation, and human rights inform modernists’ thinking about democracy, decolonisation, and race and gender equality? How were questions provoked by the first great European age of scientific discovery resurrected and renegotiated by writers responding to world war and the development of weapons of mass destruction? Experts on modernist and eighteenth-century literature and political thought will answer these questions and ask others, as this conference explores modernism’s eighteenth-century connections.

The event is free to attend and open to all. Please register at: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/modernist-afterlives-of-eighteenth-century-thought-tickets-42708792147
