Clive Myrie has been a reporter and broadcaster for over 30 years. This year he published his first book – Everything is Everything. A Memoir of Love, Hate & Hope – which effortlessly traverses the public and the personal, exploring work, family and the past. Myrie’s memoir reflects on his own history and the history of his working-class parents, who moved to Bolton in Lancashire from Jamaica in the early 1960s. He explores the diasporic life of the ‘Windrush generation’ and the way that family history has impacted his view of the world. He also reflects on race and class in the making of modern Britain.
The IHR’s public lecture series – Conversations on History – is an opportunity to think about why history matters. In conversation with the IHR Director, Professor Claire Langhamer, we will invite Clive to reflect on the different ways that the past weighs on the present and to consider how he engages with history in his working life. At the heart of our discussion will be an exploration of the relationship between public lives and personal histories.
