Tocqueville Beyond America - LECTURE

Notre Dame London hosts Jeremy Jennings, Professor of Political Theory, King’s College, London

This event is funded by Notre Dame’s Center for Citizenship & Constitutional Government. We are honoured to have Jeremy Jennings as the keynote speaker.

Alexis de Tocqueville’s journey to America in 1831 is arguably one of the most famous journeys in the history of political thought. Less well-known, however, is the fact that Tocqueville travelled to many other countries. In this talk, Jeremy Jennings will examines the place of travel in Tocqueville’s life and thought.

About Professor Jeremy Jennings

Professor Jennings’ work focuses on the history of political thought beginning with the Renaissance, especially in France, as well as liberalism, twentieth-century political thought, and the history of economic thought. He is the co-editor of the Cambridge History of French Thought and author of Travels with Tocqueville beyond America (Harvard University Press, 2023). His current project focuses on the history of the concept of liberty.
