Taming the Land? Power, Exploitation and Awe in Medieval Scotland | Dr Fiona Watson delivers the second Jenny Wormald Lecture - LECTURE

Established in 2023 by the Scottish Historical Review Trust, the Jenny Wormald lecture series commemorates Dr Wormald’s influential research and celebrates the work of female scholars.

Medieval elites liked to think of the power they had over their own lands as natural and eternal even as they were well aware of nature’s own power to disrupt and alter. In this lecture, Dr Watson will explore the relationship between how the land was controlled and exploited with how change was inevitable or desirable, reflecting both natural processes and the human context.

A widely published and acclaimed medieval historian and writer, Dr Fiona Watson was also the first director of the Centre for Environmental History at the University of Stirling.

This event is free and will be followed by a wine reception. Book your in-person or online tickets at: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/taming-the-land-power-exploitation-and-awe-in-medieval-scotland-in-person-tickets-1013735559347
