Eleanor Rykener - Document Viewing - CONFERENCE

The Questioning of Eleanor Rykener (1395) is the oldest document in London Metropolitan Archives collection that speaks directly to LGBTQ+ history. It records Rykener’s questioning by the Mayor and Alderman of the City of London. A complex story emerged. Rykener had lived as both Eleanor and John. Eleanor was an embroideress and sex worker whose clients’ included members of the church and gentry. Come along to see this remarkable document and selection of others that give us a glimpse of their life and times.

This is a drop in session so come along for or as little or as long as you like between 12:30-14:00. There will be a 15-minute talk introducing the documents on display at 12:45 and 13:30.
