Please join us for the launch of ‘The European Unity League: Sir Max Waechter and the Idea of Europe, 1904–1924‘, published by Bloomsbury (July 2026).
Date and time: Tuesday 20 October 2026, 6–8 PM
Venue: UCL Wilkins Building, Yellow Room, UCL, Gower Street, London WC1E 6BT
The book uncovers a largely forgotten early vision of European unity that emerged in Britain in the decade before 1914, tracing the remarkable career of Sir Max Waechter and his creation of the European Unity League, one of the earliest mass movements for European unity, anticipating Richard von Coudenhove-Kalergi’s interwar Pan-European Union by two decades and a world war.
