We invite proposals for the edited volume A Global History of Collecting: Objects, Institutions, and Knowledge Practices across Cultures, edited by Phillip Grimberg (FAU Erlangen–Nürnberg) and Ghada Mohamed (Cairo University), forthcoming with Routledge.
Building on a 2024 conference on “Collecting as Cultural Practice”, this volume rethinks the global history of collecting through the sociology of knowledge, exploring collecting as an epistemic and cultural practice shaping systems of value, identity, and authority across time and regions.
We welcome contributions (5,000–8,000 words) from scholars in history, art history, anthropology, archaeology, museum and heritage studies, and related disciplines. Comparative and transregional approaches, as well as perspectives from the Global South, are especially encouraged.
Abstracts (max. 500 words) and bios (max. 150 words) are due 31 January 2026.
Please send submissions to [email protected]
