Writing the Parish - Twentieth Warwick Symposium on Parish Research

Call for Registrations

As parish researchers, some of us zoom in on specific communities, buildings or individuals, while others address more general themes, period structures or longer-term developments. Yet we all engage with various forms of ‘writing’ to obtain key information and then aspire to disseminate findings in the form of reports, essays, monographs, social media posts or online texts of our own. The twentieth anniversary symposium of the Warwick Network for Parish Research focuses on the opportunities, challenges and processes of ‘writing’ about parishes in the broadest sense of the term.

Following our Call for Papers, the provisional programme features sessions on sources, genres, churches, communities & projects involving an international group of speakers. Proceedings will also include an anniversary reception on the university’s central campus.

We are now issuing a general Call for Registrations. The Symposium will take place in the Seminar Room of the Institute of Advanced Study on Warwick University’s central campus near Coventry. While personal attendance is strongly preferred (places are limited), online participation can also be accommodated. Please note that all participants (accepted speakers as well as non-presenting attendees) have to book their place in advance by Friday 29 April 2022, choosing the appropriate route out of the following three options:

  • In-Person Delegates – for everyone not giving a paper, incurring a fee of £15 (student/unwaged) or £25 (other)
  • Online Attendance – for anyone who wishes to attend virtually (subject to a £5 protection / commitment fee)
  • Speakers & Organizers – for accepted speakers & organizers attending in person (exempt from any fee)

Please visit our homepage for the provisional programme & to register for the symposium now: http://warwick.ac.uk/my-parish/parishsymposia/writing/

Everyone with an active interest in parish research is warmly welcome – we look forward to our discussions!
