Getting published can feel like an opaque, nebulous process. It often relies on prior knowledge of systems and processes, which can make things difficult for people at the beginning of their careers. Coupled with the fact that rejection is a very common occurrence for all authors, regardless of experience or stature, the whole thing can seem daunting to anyone – especially when you’re approaching it for the first time. Having a little bit of knowledge about what’s expected of you as an author – and what you can expect from journals – can go a really long way.
In this workshop, we’ll provide that knowledge. We will demystify the publishing process by discussing how to structure an article, how to choose a journal, the basics of peer review, and more. There will also be a Q&A section to allow you to ask any specific publishing questions that you may have.
The workshop will be run by Chris Grieves, Senior Journals Development Editor at Edinburgh University Press. It forms part of the broader programme for the conference Histories of Scottish Politics in the Age of Union (23-24 July), organised by Naomi Lloyd-Jones of the Durham History Department and co-editor of the Scottish Historical Review.
The event is free to attend and is hybrid. Register here by 18 July: https://pay.durham.ac.uk/event-durham/workshop-with-edinburgh-university-press-publishing-in-academic-journals
