In 2023-24 Nottingham Trent University and The National Archives run their fourth iteration of the Workhouse Lives seminar series. This year our focus is on the workhouse ‘in its place and space’. In essence we are interested in the way that workhouses interact with the wider communities of which they were part or (sometimes) on which they were imposed. We consider topics across a wide spectrum from fights over access to churches through the relationships between workhouses and other institutions, and to disputes over the very siting of new workhouse buildings.
Join us on the first Tuesday of each month (17.00-18.30) for an exciting engagement with this very under-researched topic. Just below this there is a booking link. Clicking on it brings up all nine seminars. You will need to book individual events that you want to attend as the site does not seem to support ‘wow, just book everything’. Once you are registered a Microsoft Teams link will be sent to you on the day of the seminar or the night before.
