Somerset Record Society Volunteer General Editor - CALL FOR EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST

Volunteer General Editor, Call for Expressions of Interest

The Somerset Record Society is looking for an Honorary General Editor. The Society has published volumes on the history of Somerset since 1886.  It is a registered charity, number 310292, whose purpose is the advancement of education about the history of the ancient county through the publication of its records.

This is a crucial role, requiring the successful candidate to undertake the following:

  • Identify and work with prospective scholars, initially to prepare proposals for the Society’s Council to approve, and thereafter to liaise closely as work progresses.
  • Prepare MSS submitted by individual scholars for publication; ideally one per year, or two over a period of three years.
  • Liaise with typesetters/printers as needed to deliver printed volumes.
  • Attend the Society’s Annual General Meeting and submit an annual report to the Annual General Meeting of the Somerset Archaeological and Natural History Society.
  • Attend the bi-annual meetings of the Council (the Society’s trustees), held in Taunton.
  • Present a progress report for the meetings at 4 and 5 above.

This is a three-year appointment, at the end of which the Council will review the situation, with a view to extending the term of engagement. The Honorary Editor is not required to be a trustee and expenses are available, subject to normal approvals. Some experience of editing is essential and advice and support will be given by the Council, if needed.
