Rediscovering Evelyn Dunbar: Her Life and Art

‘Rediscovering Evelyn Dunbar: A Life in Art’ explores the life and work of Evelyn Dunbar, the only salaried woman war artist during the Second World War.

This day conference will be held in-person and virtually, with a programme which includes:

  • A biographical introduction to Evelyn Dunbar; the collection at Oxford Brookes University; and its conservation and future uses.
  • An evaluation of her work prior to attending the Chelsea College of Art; her illustrations in books and magazines; and her work during the Second World War.
  • Papers which place Evelyn Dunbar alongside her contemporary artists.

The conference is accompanied by an exhibition of her work, ranging from sketches to finished works.
