Liverpool, Slavery and Church of England: Starting a Journey of Truth-telling, Healing and Repair - SEMINAR

The University of Liverpool’s Centre for the Study of International Slavery (CSIS), together with the Church of England Racial Justice Unit (CoERJU), is thrilled to announce the third and final webinar in its Truth Telling: Slavery and the Anglican Church series.

This recorded webinar, themed “Liverpool, Slavery and Church of England: starting a journey of truth-telling, healing and repair”, spotlights the journey in the Liverpool city region, which has begun to confront and address the Anglican Church’s involvement in the traffic and enslavement of Africans and its legacies.

It will take place online on Tuesday 3rd December 3 – 4.30 pm (GMT).

You can get your free ticket through the registration link below:

Moderated by Novelette-Aldoni Stewart, Chair of the Church of England’s Contested Heritage Committee, an esteemed panel of local historians/activists, including Laurence Westgaph (independent researcher, community historian and tour guide), Malcolm Rogers (the Bishop of Liverpool’s Canon for Reconciliation and Vicar of St Gabriel’s Church, Huyton Quarry), Jennie Taylor (the Racial Justice Officer for Liverpool Diocese and Cathedral) and Malik Al Nasir (author, poet and academic) will not only outline the truth to be told but also share experiences and considerations of further actions for repair, which can contribute to communities’ journeys, in the region and beyond, towards racial justice and healing.

Following the presentations by our speakers, Novelette-Aldoni Stewart will moderate an audience Q&A, generating further discussion around this important topic.

We hope you are able to join us online on Tuesday 3rd December for what promises to be a thought-provoking conversation.
