Isabella Bird: Victorian Explorer and Western China

On 10 May 1897 Isabella Bird was engaged to lecture on Western China at the Royal Geographical Society. Jacki Hill-Murphy, who has recently published The Life and Travels of Isabella Bird, will recreate that lecture, using some of Isabella’s original magic lantern slides, setting that in the context of the rest of Isabella’s intrepid solo world travels.

Jacki Hill-Murphy FRGS is an explorer, writer and speaker who has travelled to some of the most inhospitable places on earth to re-create the journeys of daring women adventurers from the past.
