Imperial Genealogies of Crime, Call for Papers: 1 December 2021

Imperial Genealogies of Crime, 17-18 and 24-25 May 2022.

This online conference series will explore entangled histories of crime and imperialism through the lens of genealogy.

We invite scholars from fields of history, criminology, law and related disciplines to propose papers that explore legacy, inheritance, connectivity and rupture in crime across empire. The series will take place over four half-days to enable scholars to join us from across the globe and to promote inclusivity, the series is free of charge.

It is organised by Dr Meg Foster, Newnham College, University of Cambridge and Dr Katy Roscoe, International Criminological Research Unit, University of Liverpool and is generously hosted by their institutions.

The conference will have two distinct streams.

Week 1, 17-18 May 2022. We invite scholars of all career stages to present 10-minute papers on their research. These papers will then lead into roundtable discussions that will be facilitated by established academics.

To participate please submit a 200-word abstract and 100-word biography (including your time zone) to: imperialgenealogiesofcrime@gmail.com by 1 December 2021.

Week 2, 24-25 May 2022. There will be ECR workshops on novel approaches to imperial crime: from life-course history to longitudinal analysis, visual criminology to podcasting, as well as tracing legal and familial inheritance in global perspective. Both experienced professors and ECRs will lead these workshops.

To register your interest please email a 150 word overview of your research and a brief biography (including your time zone) to imperialgenealogiesofcrime@gmail.com by 1 December 2021.
