HistoryLab+ presents 'Historical Research and Policy Making' - WORKSHOP

• How can historical researchers make themselves more visible to policy makers?
• What comes after? — What does policy engagement involve?

HistoryLab+, the UK’s national network for early career historians, warmly invites you to ‘HISTORICAL RESEARCH AND POLICY MAKING’ on 19 June to explore these questions.

This online event will comprise two panels focussed on connecting historians and historical research with policy makers at different levels of governance in the UK. Speakers will reflect on their roles working with and for the UK Parliament and Scottish Parliament, and their experiences as researchers engaging with policy makers and processes from within and beyond higher education. The event will conclude with a roundtable discussion to draw out key considerations, challenges, approaches, and opportunities for early career historians interested in policy engagement and impact.

Confirmed speakers:

Dr Helen McCabe, Thematic Research lead for the Arts and Humanities, UK Parliament Knowledge Exchange Unit

Dr Abigail Fletcher, Research and Communications Manager, Scottish Parliament

Professor Philip Murphy, Director of History and Policy

Dr Henry Irving, Senior Lecturer in Public History, Leeds Beckett University

Dr Tom Kelsey, Postdoctoral Research Associate in Public Policy, National Institute of Economic and Social Research (formerly Humanities and Public Policy Officer, University of Oxford)

Dr Ana-Maria Sichani, Research Associate in Digital Humanities, School of Advanced Study, University of London
