PhD Opportunity: History of Public Health

The Centre for History in Public Health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) is pleased to invite applications for a fully funded three-year full-time PhD studentship on the history of public health, starting in September 2024, funded by a donation from the Wilkinson Charitable Trust.
The exact focus will be chosen by the candidate: possible topics include historical research on:
- Health laws and ethics
- Mental illness
- HIV/AIDS
- Healthcare in prisons
- Colonialism and schools of tropical medicine
- Colonialism and the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine
- Health systems and policy, including the British NHS
- Health education/promotion
- Health consumerism
- Drugs, alcohol and tobacco
- Public health in post-war Britain
