Friends of The Women's Library Talks Programme

Dr James Keating of the University of New South Wales will speak on his recent book on Australian suffragism.

Distant sisters: Australasian women and the international struggle for the vote, 1880-1914 (Manchester University Press, 2020) tells a regional and international history of the Australasian suffrage campaigns. Drawing on archives from across the world (including the Women’s Library), it uncovers the networks built by Antipodean suffragists. Situated at the nexus of feminist and imperial history, their stories fathom the possibilities and limits of transnational connection in turn-of-the-century social reform movements
