Pascal Theatre Company announces a free online talk: Dr Helen Boyle: Pioneer in Mental Health Care for Women by Mary Chapman

Mary Chapman brings to life the experiences of women in psychiatry in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Focusing on Dr Helen Boyle, one of the first female psychiatrists in Britain, this talk tells the story of how she pioneered mental health care for women.
Dr Mary Chapman is the William Noble Fellow at the University of Liverpool. Her research focuses on the periodical press and medical practice during the Victorian period. She is interested in women in medicine, as both practitioners and patients. She has published on perceptions of the female mind in the Victorian press (Victorian Periodicals Review, 2020), on medical women’s magazines (Humanities, 2024), and recently on Amy Levy and melancholia (Women’s Writing, 2024).
