This year the French Embassy and the Institut français du Royaume-Uni are launching an exciting new collaboration with York Festival of Ideas – A Date with History. Bringing together leading historians from France and the UK, A Date with History will focus on a specific theme each year.
Join us for the inaugural event as our speakers provide historical perspectives on Europe. Throughout the day, panel discussions will address the question of Europe’s identities, migrations, and Franco-British relations.
Speakers include
- Roger Chartier of the Collège de France
- Chris Clark of the University of Cambridge
- Jean-Frédéric Schaub of the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (EHESS)
- Maxine Berg of the University of Warwick.
Throughout the day, leading historians from France and the UK will address historical perspectives on Europe during the following panel discussions:–

What is Europe? (1.00 – 2.30pm)–
Perspectives on Franco-British Relations (3.00 – 4.30pm)–
Europe: A history of migrations (5.00 – 6.30pm)
