Sensing the Early Modern

Birkbeck Early Modern Society is pleased to announce its 9th annual student conference on the theme of ‘Sensing the Early Modern’ to take place on 20th February 2016.

The conference includes papers that explore perceptions of the senses during the early modern period, 1500-1800 with submissions from post-graduate students from all institutions. It provides an engaged and friendly forum to showcase student research.

We will present a diverse and inter-disciplinary collection of papers that connect with our conference theme. Conference papers will address the five traditional senses – sight, hearing, taste, smell, and touch – or those less defined areas, such as the sense of time or place; of common sense, pain or pleasure.

For more information please contact Sue Jones, President, Birkbeck Early Modern Society, bbkems@gmail.com or visit the EMS website.
