Two vacancies on the RHS Council: Vice President and Treasurer

13 March 2023

Applications are now invited from current Fellows of the Society for two vacancies on its Council (governing body): Vice President of the RHS and Treasurer of the RHS.

The Vice President of the Society will play an important role as an outward-facing representative of the RHS and in helping to shape the strategic direction of the organisation. S/he will represent the Society and foster positive relationships with our community through sharing with the President the chairing of Society’s programme of events and visits. S/he will also deputise for the President as necessary, chair the RHS Membership Committee, and play an active role in developing the Society’s relationship with its members.

The Treasurer of the Society will work closely within the CEO to ensure matters of financial management and strategy, as approved by the Council, are carried out in line with best practice at all times. S/he will chair the Society’s Finance Committee and ‘Investment Sub-Group’.

Both roles require a time-commitment of up to 2 days per month, and are fully supported by the Society’s professional central office based at University College London.

Both appointments are for a two-year term, with possibility of renewal up to four years, and have been created as part of an ongoing review of the Society’s governance to focus on areas of key importance to the discipline at this time.

Applicants will be current Fellows of the Royal Historical Society and based in the UK. The closing date for applications is Friday 14 April 2023.

Further details of the two posts, and how to apply, are available here for the role of Vice President and that of Treasurer.

Those interested in either of these roles are welcome to speak informally with Professor Emma Griffin, President of the Society prior to application: president@royalhistsoc.org.
