The Trafalgar Chronicle 2019 – New Series no 4: Nelson’s Friends and Contemporaries
The next edition of the Trafalgar Chronicle, TC 2019 new series no 4, will be themed on the people who Nelson knew, his friends and his contemporaries, as well as technical and scientific changes which were taking place at the turn of the 18th century.
Contributions already articles on Stephen Faragut by former US Navy Secretary John Lehman and on John Gambier by Professor John Hattendorf, the New York-born Westphal brothers, ‘Jack Punch’ Perkins the first black officer in the Royal Navy, William Pringle Green who was so critical of the results at Trafalgar, and the Loyalist Richard Bulkeleys, father and son who knew Nelson at the beginning and at the end of his career, as well as accounts of the development of ballooning and diving in Nelson’s age.
Other articles are welcome, and first-time papers by undergraduates and by students of the period are particularly welcome.Papers should be 3,000 to 5,000 words in length, and they should be accompanied by at least three to four illustrations. A style guide and a synopsis is available.
The deadline for copy is 1 May 2019.
