Professor Arthur Burns

Vice-President and Chair of Education Policy Committee

Arthur Burns

Arthur Burns is Professor of Modern British History at King’s College London. Chiefly a historian of later Hanoverian England, his interest in the institutional history of the Church of England has also produced work with a more modern focus (he is currently writing a study of Christian socialism in Thaxted). With Stephen Taylor and Kenneth Fincham he devised and still oversees the Clergy of the Church of England Database 1540-1835, a pioneering initiative in digital history. A former RHS literary director, he is an experienced academic editor, and has a long-standing interest in curriculum issues. He is a parent governor of Saffron Walden County High School.
