The Church and Youth – Scottish Church History

The Scottish Church History Society’s spring conference will be on the theme of the Church and Youth and will be held on Saturday 4 March 2023. This will be a hybrid event run from Edinburgh Theological Seminary.

We are delighted to announce that our keynote speaker is Professor Stephen Parker (University of Worcester), who has recently stepped down as the President of the History of Education Society (2020-22). He is the lead editor of the Journal of Beliefs and Values and the Brill Research Perspectives in Education and Religion series. Professor Parker’s paper is entitled:

‘Differentiating religious broadcasting for children and youth in Scotland: Priorities and personalities in the radio years.’

The full programme of papers will be made available nearer the event. Potential subjects include the church’s engagement with:

  • children and childhood
  • education and schooling
  • pregnancy and reproduction
  • family and home life
  • youth and adolescence

Online attendance will be priced at £5; in-person tickets will cost £10 (student/unwaged) or £15 (full price adult ticket) and will include the cost of tea/coffee and a sandwich lunch.
