Performing Magic in the pre-Modern North - CONFERENCE

Performing Magic in the pre-Modern North Conference November 2023

Welcome to Performing Magic in the pre-Modern North! We are a group of academics who have an interest in active academic research on the complex topic of “magic” in pre-Modern Northern regions. Our conferences are usually held annually but, given the increased popularity of our previous conferences, we are happy to announce that we are holding another event on 9-10 November 2023.

The conference will focus on magic in ancient, medieval, and early modern Northern Europe. Magic, both as a concept and a tool, is frequently featured in textual sources of the pre-Modern North. We are lucky to welcome several speakers on a variety of interesting topics in relation to this year’s conference theme. In addition we have organised a Walking Tour and Networking Event on 9th November, and a Creative Writing Workshop on 10th November after conference sessions (space is limited for the tour and workshop).
