MEDIEVAL TRAVEL
The theme of the July 2021 Harlaxton symposium will be Medieval Travel, throughout Europe and beyond. Because so much has been written on medieval pilgrimage, this symposium will focus instead on travel undertaken for other purposes.
The papers will address the realities and practicalities of medieval travel: the use of maps and guides, the luggage required, the availability of inns and stabling, the entertainment along the way, the wonders that were encountered and the descriptions of travellers’ adventures both in writing and in art. https://harlaxton.org.uk/zoomposium2021/
