Bibliography of British and Irish History: new update

2 March 2022

The latest update to the Bibliography of British and Irish History (BBIH) adds records of 1648 monographs, journal articles, book chapters and edited collections – over 1000 of which are for recent works published between 2020 and 2022.

The new update brings the total number of records available via BBIH to 634,693 covering the history of Britain and Ireland, the former empire, Commonwealth and the British and Irish worldwide.

Listing of new titles added to the Bibliography this month, 11 of 1648.

Each publication included in BBIH receives a detailed record which is richly tagged to enable searching by historical subject, place, chronology, author and many other attributes. This makes the Bibliography a powerful tool for identifying publications in a chosen area of research.

Guides / videos on using BBIH for MA and PhD research, and for lecturers in teaching, are available from the Royal Historical Society and the Institute of Historical Research.

BBIH record from the February 2022 update for a 2021 monograph. Records provide bibliographic data, metadata for searching across titles, and records of available reviews.

Records for monographs link to reviews of the book in journals (with more reviews added as they appear). Records for journal articles also link to the full article (where available in a library’s collection) or to the abstract if the article is not provided by a subscribing library.

Records for journal articles provide bibliographic and metadata, in addition to links to the full text / abstract depending in a library’s subscription policy.

The Bibliography is updated four times a year, in February, May, August and November. It is a research project of the Royal Historical Society and Institute of Historical Research, London, published online by Brepols.
