Dr Ian Archer

Dr Ian Archer was born in Altrincham Cheshire and educated at Altrincham Grammar School for Boys and Trinity College Oxford. He is best known for his monograph The Pursuit of Stability. Social relations in Elizabethan London but he has published widely on the social and cultural history of early modern London. He has recently co-edited English Historical Documents 1558-1603 and The Oxford Handbook to Holinshed’s Chronicles. He is now working on a general history of early modern London. He has served as Academic Editor of the Bibliography of British and Irish History for eleven years, and is entering his second decade as Literary Director.
