Henry VIII: Kingship & Tyranny

The Queen Mary Public History Unit presents Professor Richard Rex, the Director of Studies in Theological and Religious Studies at the University of Cambridge, for a lecture on ‘Henry VIII: Kingship and Tyranny’. Rex has written widely on the interaction between religion, politics, and ideas in early modern England and Europe.

Rex’s popular survey of the Tudors was recently reissued as Tudors: the Illustrated History, and his other work includes Henry VIII and the English Reformation and the controversial The Lollards.

Rex is currently working on a project exploring the emergence and impact of the theology and public persona of Martin Luther in the Imperial and European context of the early sixteenth century.

The lecture shall start at 19:00 and will be followed by a drinks reception to which all attendees are invited. Please arrive promptly to guarantee entry.
